  • Hong Kong share market finished session modestly higher on Thursday, 30 March 2023, extending yesterday's rally, on following the broadly positive cues from global markets overnight, amid continued easing of concerns about contagion from the recent turmoil in the banking sector and amid signs of recovery in China's economy.

    At closing bell, the benchmark Hang Seng Index advanced 116.73 points, or 0.58%, to 20,309.13. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index inclined 43.73 points, or 0.64%, to 6,922.66.

    Top U.S. regulators expressed confidence that banks were solvent, blaming the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank on mismanagement, rather than systemic risks.

    China's Premier Li Qiang, speaking at the Boao Forum, reiterated that China's economic performance improved in March from the first two months of the year and the country will continue to boost domestic spending and drive a further economic recovery.

    Among blue chips, Kuaishou surged 5.6% to HK$59.40, PetroChina rallied 7.8% to HK$4.68 and Alibaba Group added 2.5% to HK$96.90. Electric vehicle maker BYD jumped 3.3% to HK$225.20 and peer Xpeng surged 7.5% to HK$44.40.
