  • China Market climbs 0.65% on growth optimism

  • Mainland China share market finished session higher on Thursday, 30 March 2023, as risk sentiments underpinned on economic growth optimism after Premier Li Qiang said at an economic forum in Boao that China's economic performance improved in March from the first two months of the year and the country will continue to boost domestic spending and drive a further economic recovery.

    However, market gains capped as investors were awaiting for March China manufacturing data due on Friday for more clues on the economic recovery.

    At close of trade, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.65%, or 21.19 points, to 3,261.25. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, added 0.23%, or 4.92 points, to 2,108.29. The blue-chip CSI300 index climbed up 0.81%, or 32.39 points, to 4,038.53.

    CURRENCY NEWS: China's yuan eased against the dollar on Thursday, weighed by a weakened official guidance fixing. Prior to market opening, the People's Bank of China set the midpoint rate CNY=PBOC at 6.8886 per dollar, 115 pips weaker than the previous fix of 6.8771.In the spot market, the yuan CNY=CFXS was changing hands at 6.8958 at midday, 92 pips weaker than the previous late session close.
